Too much thinking can be the very obstacle that stops you from getting what you want. Whether you need to calm down for public speaking, allow yourself to be more creative or just stop your mind whirring so you can get some sleep - it is good to know how to flick the "off" switch to allow your mind to settle into stillness so that you can either allow yourself to rest or connect to a more resourceful / creative state that lies deep in our mind. In this blog I will teach you 3 powerful ways to do this which are associated with our body our speech and our mind. MindI am sure you know by now that telling your mind to just shut up doesn't work - A mind can not be prodded with angry thoughts and expected to quieten down. You need instead to switch the subject of the mind to something that either boring or shocking. To quickly quieten the mind the best subject is a very sobering thought. Death is very sobering, especially if you clearly visualise the dead bodies. But so is all types of suffering. If these things are too shocking to think about, then try something else that is either sobering or very boring - but the more shocking the better it works.SpeechSome meditations work on the power of a mantra - or repeated set of words that you say over and over again. To some degree, this is because the mind must remain conscious of what you are saying and thus causes an anchor that is not the whirring thoughts. You can say something like "My mind is becoming still" or it you would like to use an ancient Tibetan mantra you can use "OM AH RA PA TSA NA DI" which is especially for speech.BodyThe body is linked closely with the mind so movements in the body can affect the mind. Did you know that your eyes move in certain directions when you think about certain things. Then move up to visualise something, sideways to recall voice and down when you are feeling something. So if your eyes are looking up it is hard to feel feelings or talk to yourself. Thus a physical trick to reboot your mind is to move your eyes up and down and round and round and hold them for a second or two in each quadrant! Try it and see how it works. This can also reportedly stop the hic ups!
